Never accept an inflationary percentage increase from a Tier-1 software vendor without weaponizing your alternatives.

The Strategy

We isolated exactly three critical micro-services within the vendor’s stack that the client absolutely relied upon. Everything else was commoditized. We built a shadow-RFP for the commodity functions and presented the vendor with a bifurcated renewal strategy: either they discount the entire suite by 40%, or we rip out 80% of their footprint.

The Outcome

The vendor capitulated within 72 hours. Not only did we secure the 40% baseline reduction, but we negotiated a zero-inflation cap for the next 5 years. Always build a credible threat of substitution.
